The historic center of Pienza is a reality attracting visitors from all over the world, and the UNESCO World Heritage Site Management Plan addresses the need to enable effective monitoring sites inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites , to check the integrity and enable conservation and development projects .
In the town of Pienza we find the first application of the concept of humanistic and Renaissance urban design and has therefore played a major role in the development of a prototype of the concept of the ideal city in Italy and in the world : the application of this principle in the historical center of Pienza, especially in the group of buildings around the central square, has led to the creation of a masterpiece of human creative genius .
The preparation of the Management Plan of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Pienza has been the launch of a joint discussion between the public body , associations , citizens and cultural forces towards a project of awareness and collective responsibility for the preservation of a complex of such high value : the recognition of UNESCO is a starting point and not an end point , a working basis to build, in line with the planning instruments and with the support of the citizens, a concrete project responsibility for citizens and tourists to the city itself.
The Management Plan , prepared on the basis of the instructions of the Ministry of Heritage and Cultural Activities in December 2005, is divided into three phases: analytical and peculiar character of the territorial and cultural context of the site, to enable strategic projects for the protection , conservation and exploitation , management and monitoring activities to enable knowledge , promotion and development of the potential of the area.
The Plan contains 5 lines of address for strategic projects : Protection of the site to promote the conservation of historic and architectural character of the historic center , research and development of the humanistic characters to foster the creation and development of a cultural circuit linked to the concepts of humanism. Enhancement of the social dimension and the use of the historical center to foster the development of tourism attentive to the fragility of the characters and places, Recovery of architectural and landscape character of the site in peculiar relations with the urban fabric and the city expansion, Enhancement tourism and proposition of socio-economic activities compatible with the site to promote a sustainable growth of tourism in relation to the place and with the surrounding area.
Il centro storico di Pienza è una realtà in grado di attrarre visitatori da tutto il mondo ed il Piano di gestione del sito UNESCO risponde all’esigenza di attivare un controllo efficace sui siti iscritti nella Lista del Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità , di verificarne l’integrità e di attivare progetti di conservazione e valorizzazione.
La città di Pienza rappresenta la prima applicazione del concetto umanistico e rinascimentale di disegno urbanistico e ha svolto pertanto un ruolo di prototipo per lo sviluppo del concetto di città ideale in Italia e nel mondo: l’applicazione di questo principio nel centro storico di Pienza ed in particolare nel gruppo di edifici attorno alla piazza centrale ha condotto alla realizzazione di un capolavoro del genio umano.
La redazione del Piano di Gestione del sito UNESCO Centro Storico di Pienza ha costituito l’avvio di una riflessione comune, tra l’ente pubblico, le associazioni, i cittadini e le forze culturali verso un progetto di consapevolezza e di responsabilità collettiva per la conservazione di un complesso di così elevato valore: il riconoscimento dell’UNESCO rappresenta un punto di partenza e non un punto d’arrivo, una base di lavoro per costruire, in coerenza con gli strumenti urbanistici e con il contributo dei cittadini, un progetto concreto di responsabilità per i cittadini e per i turisti nei confronti della città stessa.
Il Piano di Gestione, elaborato sulla base delle indicazioni del Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali del dicembre 2005, è articolato secondo tre fasi: analitica dei caratteri peculiari e del contesto territoriale e culturale del sito, strategica per attivare progetti di tutela, conservazione e valorizzazione, gestionale con attività di monitoraggio per attivare conoscenza, promozione e sviluppo delle potenzialità dei luoghi.
Il Piano contiene 5 linee d’indirizzo per i progetti strategici: Tutela del sito per favorire la conservazione dei caratteri storico-architettonici del centro storico, Ricerca e valorizzazione dei caratteri umanistici per favorire la creazione e lo sviluppo di un circuito culturale legato ai concetti dell’umanesimo, Valorizzazione della dimensione sociale e d’uso del centro storico per favorire uno sviluppo turistico attento alle fragilità e ai caratteri dei luoghi, Recupero dei caratteri architettonici e paesaggistici peculiari del sito nelle relazioni col tessuto urbano e con la città in espansione, Valorizzazione turistica e proposizione di attività socio-economiche compatibili con il sito per favorire incremento del turismo sostenibile in relazione al luogo e nel rapporto col territorio circostante.
