The project of the Parco dei Gessi aims to maintain and restore the balance morphological-environmental that characterize the context: the chalky formations within Enna low testify to the physical continuity between the natural and urban environment, by the river Torcicoda to quickly go back to the historic city; the project aims to recover and strengthen the relationship between the city and the territory through the continued integration of spaces, from the city to the park, from the streets to the lawn, the woods, the river, the urban gardens, to the city. The park is the site of daily life, is the place where you can walk, breathe, run, read, listen, play, talk, relax, eat, study, work, learn and know. It is a space of integration, openness to the world, to culture, to the knowledge of how new and different. The location in a residential area with high population density and proximity to the university structure amplifies the potential of the site by opening to a continuous comparison between single individuals and society, between cultures and needs. In the park spaces and functions are both integrated and distinct: The "squares of the sun" in the east end of the park, and The River's Forest, an ecological corridor, enclose the Chalky hill, the heart of the park. The Hill, surrounded by two rivers, is the central engine that retains the characteristics of a special place that push to urban regeneration. The project of the areas that overlook the surrounding neighborhoods opens to a system of physical relationships at the service of residents and students, in direct relationship to the religious center of St. Anne and in a visual connection with the historical city. The "squares of the sun" are relational spaces for social and cultural life, equipped to facilitate moments of contact, of debate, of confrontation. The River's Forest reassembles the strong system of ecological connection that goes up the slope, with the creation of small parks, connected by bold bridges that rise through the trees and that open up to new familiar places, offering opportunities for discovery and surprise. Chalky Park is the Park of Enna, a valuable space within the urban fabric, strongly supported by the community, where the formula of the project in the involvement of the population identifies the formula most likely to secure the construction and operation of a space of all and for all, strengthening the connection between the historic city and the new city, towards the concept of unique community, a crossroads of interests, cultures and ethnic groups.
Il progetto del Parco dei Gessi si pone come obiettivo il mantenimento ed il ripristino di equilibri morfologico-ambientali molto specifici che caratterizzano il contesto: le formazioni gessose all’interno di Enna bassa testimoniano la continuità fisica tra ambiente naturale ed ambiente urbano dal fiume Torcicoda fino al rapido risalire alla città storica. Il progetto vuole recuperare e rafforzare il rapporto tra la città ed il territorio attraverso la continua integrazione degli spazi, dalla città al parco, dalle piazze al prato, al bosco, al fiume, agli orti urbani e ancora alla città . Il parco è il luogo della vita quotidiana, è il posto dove passeggiare, respirare, correre, leggere, ascoltare, giocare, dialogare, rilassarsi, mangiare, studiare, lavorare, conoscere e conoscersi. E’ lo spazio dell’integrazione, dell’apertura al mondo, alla cultura, alla conoscenza di quanto è nuovo e diverso. La localizzazione all’interno di una zona residenziale ad alta densità abitativa e la prossimità con la struttura universitaria amplifica le potenzialità dei luoghi aprendo ad un confronto continuo tra individui singoli e collettività , tra culture ed esigenze diverse. Nel Parco spazi e funzioni sono integrati e al contempo distinti: Le "Piazze del sole" nella fascia orientale del parco, ed "Il Bosco del fiume", corridoio di connessione ecologica, racchiudono La Collina dei Gessi, il cuore del parco. La Collina, racchiusa dai due corsi d’acqua, è il motore centrale che conserva le peculiarità di un luogo speciale, da cui parte la spinta alla riqualificazione urbana. Il progetto delle aree su cui affacciano i quartieri limitrofi apre ad un sistema di relazioni fisiche, concettuali e funzionali a servizio dei cittadini residenti e degli studenti, in diretta relazione col centro religioso di Sant’Anna e in connessione visuale con la città storica. Le Piazze del sole sono spazi di relazione funzionali alla vita sociale e culturale, attrezzati per favorire momenti di contatto e dibattito. Il Bosco del fiume ricompone il forte sistema di connessione ecologica che risale il versante, con la creazione di piccole aree di sosta, collegate da arditi ponti che si innalzano tra gli alberi e che aprono ad una visione nuova e diversa dei luoghi ormai familiari, offrendo occasioni di scoperta e sorpresa. Il Parco dei Gessi è il Parco di Enna, uno spazio prezioso all’interno del tessuto urbano, fortemente voluto dalla comunità , dove la formula del progetto partecipato individua nel coinvolgimento della popolazione la maniera più idonea a garantire la realizzazione e la gestione di uno spazio di tutti, rafforzando la connessione tra città storica e città nuova, verso il concetto di unica comunità , crocevia di interessi, culture ed etnie diverse.
